Persian etymology

I'm not denying that "xar" can mean "big" in compounds. But in this case "donkey-ear" makes just as much sense as "big-ear", doesn't it? The ears of the two species look quite similar. So why rule that out? 2.207.102.191 00:41, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

@Lingo Bingo Dingo: It does make sense, though I am not sure that as much. I have not ruled it out though, I just forwent double glosses (and that wasn’t even me alone, the gloss was already there, so somebody else also directly connected the “large” sense). But for the plant senses, I assume they aren’t from the hare or rabbit meaning but directly from the concepts of large plus ear, due to the leaf shape, while connection to donkey ears would be remote.
