@माधवपंडित Any idea if this had a PIE root? —Aryamanarora (मुझसे बात करो) 01:52, 14 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Aryamanarora Its root मुच् (muc) seems very likely to have had a PIE root. I'm still trying to find it. माधवपंडित (talk) 02:28, 14 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Aryamanarora I found it; according to Monier-Williams, मुच् (muc) is related to Latin mucus and Ancient Greek μύκης (múkēs) from a PIE *mew-k (to slip). I had hypothesized it as *mewkʷ.

@माधवपंडित: Hmm, I wonder how the sense liberation came about. —Aryamanarora (मुझसे बात करो) 16:45, 14 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Aryamanarora: Could have developed from the sense "slipping out of"? Because originally मुच् means riddance or release. I'm guessing it developed from "slippery" > "slipping out of (something)" > "riddance" > "liberation" माधवपंडित (talk) 01:58, 15 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
