@Kutchkutch I'm inclined to think this comes from the Classical Persian variant سوال, transcribed 'suwāl' ('sawāl' is possible too, but Steingass says "A سؤال suʼāl, in P. mostly suwāl"). This is also what the Punjabi article suggests (for ਸਵਾਲ), I simply improved the transcription there. Exarchus (talk) 09:46, 18 June 2023 (UTC)
