Etymology[edit]

@User:Aryamanarora hi, are you sure that it derived from Sanskrit Dirgha? Because Assamese has its descendant দীঘল (dighol) means "long". And Dirgha starts with দ while Dangor starts with ড . My Maithili speaking friend told me that in Maithili or Surajpuri (dialect of Rajbongsi/Rangpuri/Kamata) "ঢাঁগৰ" (ढाँगर) means "big". I asked him but currently he's offline. I checked an Assamese dictionary and found a cognate ডাঙ্গৰ (daṅgor). Sagir Ahmed Msa (talk) 15:50, 3 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

That was just a possible relation that I though of. In New Indo-Aryan Sanskrit द often becomes ड btw. Perhaps it is an Eastern Indo-Aryan creation? —Aryaman (मुझसे बात करो) 15:56, 3 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
