არანძი

[edit]

@Gubazes, can this be regularly derived within Laz from არანძი (aranżi), with a suffix -a? Vahag (talk) 16:15, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

A few that I can think of right now are კაკალი (ǩaǩali) and კაკალა (ǩaǩala). But to be fair this form is irregular. Aleksiva says "aranža(cow name) Laz aranži "orange; bitter orange." It is put on the cows whose pelt color turns orange." and explains it as "In the Rize and Laz-speaking regions, there is even a suffix that only serves to name a cow. This suffix (-á) is of Greek origin, and its main function in Greek is to make a feminine noun." so maybe orange(color) evolved from the naming of the cow? Looking at the article you referred to, -ა (-a) is clearly functioning as a suffix and is applied also to native stems. Vahag (talk) 19:46, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
