@Vahagn_Petrosyan: უჯი (uci) is probably just ears, and looking at the species it makes sense კვარია (talk) 22:11, 18 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Caper Kartvelian[edit]

From your material it looks like Persian کبر (kabar, caper) and “Oriental-origin” Ancient Greek κάππαρις (kápparis) could be ultimately from Kartvelian, unless a third language group, as long as we don’t have anything to write for the Persian etymology, just dropping the thought here … Fay Freak (talk) 23:00, 18 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Not reconstructible for Kartvelian. You'd expect something like *კოპორ- (*ǩop̌or-) or perhaps *კეპორ- (*ǩep̌or-) in Zan კვარია (talk) 23:14, 18 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
The word seems to be confined to Pontus and Colchis, so could be a Greek borrowing if we can offer a native origin for the Pontic terms I just added. Vahag (talk) 23:48, 18 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Russian Wikipedia explains the connection of bladdernuts and capers by the similar taste. But how are they connected to the elder? --Vahag (talk) 00:18, 19 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'm not too sure, but in any case it's probably safe to assume this is ultimately a Greek borrowing კვარია (talk) 08:11, 19 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
