- It's very strange. The accent of this word can't be explained in the same way that ἵλεως (híleōs) and πόλεως (póleōs) can, by quantitative metathesis. Perhaps it's by analogy, but I'm not sure what the analog is. — Eru·tuon 19:56, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
- If as you mention it was first attested in Koine, then classical length had already disappeared. Then maybe these restrictions were no longer in effect? --WikiTiki89 20:01, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Wikitiki89: That's plausible, for this word at least. But it seems that there are quite a few other words formed with the morpheme -κερως (-kerōs) that have the irregular accent, and there are a few, like χρῡσόκερως, that occur before the Koine period.
