It is not an idiomatic phrase, you can think of the 'shiteru'/'suru' as being equivalent to the English 'to' in 'to love', or 'be' in 'be loved'; it indicated direction and tense.

That being said, I think this might be better off at 愛している (ai shiteiru) with the extra い. It is more correct grammatically. Both are used, I couldn't say which one was more common but generally Japanese spellcheck programs will flag aishiteru as a grammatical error, though the form is common in casual speech.
