Japanese kaji[edit]

For a depiction of the ancient oar-like kaji used for propulsion, see the movie Spirited Away. Roughly two-thirds of the way through the film, the main character Chihiro is given a ride in what appears to be a large wooden washtub fitted with a kind of kaji, which Rin pushes back and forth to propel the tub.
