Mainland pronunciation standards[edit]
I passionately believe that this dictionary will increase in value (bigly) if something like this could be added to the page of characters like 薇 that were directly given a standard pronunciation BY the 审音表. Here's how I was doing it:
|m=wēi,wéi,1nb=Mainland (since 1985; proposed in 1959),2nb=Taiwan
Source for this- these dates are based on these sources: 普通话异读词审因表 (published 1987; quoting 1985 list) pg. 42, 86; 中國語文. Aug 1959 pg. 321, 325.
I don't know if anyone will care about it unless I go in and (boldly as it were) add this info like I have been with the experimental edits- honestly, who is reading the talk page on 薇? But yeah, can we have some kind of way of notation that lets people know that some of the Taiwan/Mainland pronunciation differences like these came from the 1985 审音表? --Geographyinitiative (talk) 15:51, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Geographyinitiative: The 1985 审音表 is not the be-all and end-all of pronunciations; what the 审音表 did was just standardization of what's already the norm in Beijing Mandarin speech. BTW, the appropriate venue for discussion is the Tea Room if it's specific to a word or the Beer Parlour if it's concerning policy. Wiktionary is very strict about its formatting, so any "bold" step to be made needs to be discussed to ensure consistency across entries. — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 16:17, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

- @Justinrleung: If I had to guess, there are about 400 or 500 characters that were specially given an officially designated pronunciation, but I haven't counted. The list is on wikisource- 普通话异读词审音表.
