Needs definition. This character is part of the name of an ancient bell called "weixun" or "weishun." 24.93.190.134 21:47, 8 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I created a definition, but I can find no reference to "weixun" or "weishun" which refers to an ancient bell. The only compound that I have come across is 蜼彝 (lěiyí - a bronze vessel in the shape of a reptile which was used for ancient rituals). -- A-cai 20:42, 9 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rfv-sense

  1. Pronounced wěi? (archaic) a type of reptile (similar to a lizard)
  2. Pronounced wèi? (archaic) long-tailed monkey (similar to a macaque but larger). --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 13:13, 16 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
The monkey sense should be cited (with help from Hanyu Da Zidian and Hanyu Da Cidian). The reptile sense seems to be only found in Jiyun. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 07:32, 13 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
New finding: outside of Jiyun, the reptile sense is found in 駢雅, 詩名物疏, 詩傳名物集覽 and 陸氏詩疏廣要, in the compound 號蜼. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 04:08, 8 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Another finding: Hanyu Da Zidian may have made a mistake. I checked Jiyun and couldn't find the reptile sense under ; however, I did find the same definition in 𧐌. @Dokurrat: do you think Hanyu Da Zidian made a mistake? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 04:34, 8 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung: Sorry that I can't answer you whether "reptile" sense is locatable in Jiyun, because I'm not good at reading 韻書. Yes, it is possible for a project as big and complex as Hanyu Da Zidian to make mistakes; I've actually found several potential ones. Dokurrat (talk) 09:36, 8 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
