Alternate Korean reading?[edit]

Can it also be pronounced as "dong" in Korean, as in 독립문 (獨立門)? See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independence_Gate . 24.29.228.33 01:49, 11 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, due to the following n-pronounciation of 립. —Stephen 02:02, 11 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, so a question is, do we include these variations at Wiktionary entries, as Korean syllabic blocks change their pronunciation by proximity with other syllabic blocks? I believe we should, otherwise we would mislead our readers that a given block is always pronounced in the one way we have it. 24.29.228.33 04:01, 11 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

No, I don’t think so. It would be confusing and would offer nothing of benefit. The pronunciation anomalies should go with the particular word. After all, usually is not an n. Actually, I have found the rule explained at w:Korean phonology#Allophones and assimilation. —Stephen 04:53, 11 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
