I added another ref due to concerns that a 'neo-neo-con' blog isn't exactly the greatest soruce for something like this. There are some others here [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]. From reading those, many people appear to be of the opinion the Arab street doesn't really exist any more or it's only a minor influence and our definition doesn't exactly seem to be the same as the way they are using it.
