Etymology[edit]

Does anyone have a source on the current etymology (arum+sema)? The Flora of North America, which is a pretty well-researched source on taxonomic etymologies, has it as "aris" (a name "used by Pliny") + "haima" (ancient Greek for "blood", which refers both to the red-spotted leaves and the blood-red fruits).
