Esoteric but interesting[edit]

There is a lamentable shortage of translations here, possibly because the topic is too esoteric, possibly because people don't see any use in listing names for the Cambrian period in lesser languages.

The lack of a pronunciation for the Mandarin Chinese and any entry at all for Japanese was particularly lamentable.

First, it failed to show that the Chinese "hánwǔ" is weirdly divergent from the English.

Secondly, it failed to show why. With the old Japanese orthography added, the source of the Chinese name is immediately apparent. As the Chinese Wikipedia article points out:

中文名称源自旧时日本人使用日语汉字音读的音译名“寒武纪”(日语:寒武紀 kanbuki)。

More translations from other languages would be appreciated.
