Rfv-sense "The city of Toronto, due to its self-absorbed haughty attitude." How is it used? I think there's an idiomatic sense out there, but I doubt this is it. PUC19:48, 19 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

The term Navel of the World (Ancient Greek ὁ ὀμφαλός τοῦ κόσμου (ho omphalós toû kósmou), Latin umbilicus mundi ) is used for any supposed centre of the universe. The disputed sense is IMO meant as a derogatory term anyone can use for any geographical location where they have been disgruntled by perceived haughtiness of the locals.  --Lambiam 08:22, 20 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
I've added some potential cites (one is a cite for sure, the other two may not count towards attestation). Note also the entry Center of the Universe, which is defined as New York City. Andrew Sheedy (talk) 06:51, 25 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
The cites look good but we could do with a more general definition for ‘centre/center of the universe’ than just New York and Toronto. In ancient times Delphi, Mount Olympus and Rome were also talked about in the same way and also Jerusalem, Mecca, London, Mount Kenya and Mount Meru are all sometimes so described to this day. --Overlordnat1 (talk) 07:45, 25 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
