The citation for the etymology of this name was not reliable, the name first appears in poems in the 'black book of Carmarthen' the earliest parts of which date from the 13th century, many of these poems though were much older and were passed on orally before being recorded in the book latterly, the name Elgan first appears in poems attributed to Myrddin wyllt, in "Ymddiddan Myrddin a Talyessin", I think there are other references to the name in other parts of the 'black book', but it is 2.30am etc etc.... the origin of the name is therefore middle welsh or even older, it certainly does not mean "bright circle" in modern welsh, as it is 'Elgan' does not appear in the on-line dictionary of modern and historical welsh (Geiriadur Prifysgol Cymru), which seems to suggest an older, lost, and due to the lack of written record, indeterminable meaning. However I am not saying that the suggested meaning is incorrect, the citation though is highly suspect, not offering any proof itself... I will be tweeting this at @geiriadur to see what they think Vardasnejonas (talk) 02:47, 3 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

I have no idea, but I reverted your edits purely because you broke everything in the entry. Please do not use the header ==Middle and Old Welsh== but ==Middle Welsh== followed by ==Old Welsh== further down the page. Mglovesfun (talk) 18:49, 6 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
