From Wikipedia article on en:Moscow#Etymology (Moscow) which has unknown etymology except:

"The name of the city is thought to be derived from the name of the Moskva River. Finno-Ugric Merya and Muroma people, who were among the tribes which originally inhabited the area, called the river Mustajoki."
