Is this a real word? I thought it was just a Harry Potter thing... Kappa 01:25, 6 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it was just Harry Potter, and I intended to find cites of usage outside the genre, but so far I have found only blogs etc. The word is already being misused there, and I think it will not be long before it becomes a real word like its negative, used recently by The Observer, but perhaps I was being premature? ( ... later ... ) Thanks to D C During for finding excellent cites outside the HP genre. My internet connection was malfunctioning, otherwise I might have searched more thoroughly. Dbfirs 09:13, 7 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
JKRowlings: our Shakespeare, but on Internet time? Strictly speaking the cites are from the same genre, but show independence (different author, publisher) as needed for CFI. DCDuring TALK 10:36, 7 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

apparate[edit]

Rfv-sense: verb. Harry Potter coinage. DCDuring TALK 15:48, 5 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Cited. Apparently independent imitators of Harry Potter-style books have used this one. DCDuring TALK 19:08, 5 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Note also that the imitators (if the citations are correct) spell it lower-case, while in HP it's always capitalized. Angr 16:48, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
