Etymology[edit]

In speech, people do not use the noun regard as an independent lexical item in the singular, since it is slightly formal and more typical of the written register. However, the plural regards ‘best wishes’ is used, e.g. give my regards to Daphne . Until dictionaries say otherwise, it is best to stick to with regard to .
