backcheck[edit]

Rfv-sense: "To rush back to the defensive zone to defend against the other team's attack" Sole existing sense.

I thought that there was always contact or threat of contact with an opposing player or the puck. I thought of this as attempting to check a skater with the puck from behind. DCDuring TALK 21:56, 23 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • I've added some citations of use, but the definition could be made a little more formal. bd2412 T 13:25, 26 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
I've taken a run at definitions, but I'm not enough of a hockey fan to know. Other dictionaries are not too much help. The citations are for both transitive (2) and intransitive use (2) so the challenged intransitive sense is short of citations. We'd be better off to delete the existing definition and insert {{rfdef}} than to keep this, or even my newly inserted definitions. DCDuring TALK 23:12, 1 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

{{look}} I can't find a citation that specifies the details of the challenged definition; I have deleted it, and redistributed the citations to the other definitions based on their transitivity. Whether this can be improved further is not an RfV matter. Cheers! bd2412 T 02:32, 10 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
