I do not think that banaler and banalest are acceptable comparative and superlative forms of this adjective — This unsigned comment was added by 24.11.168.49 (talk) at 21:49, 11 August 2013.

How are you defining 'acceptable' here? They sound right. Mglovesfun (talk) 21:51, 11 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
That is precisely the problem - they do not sound right 50.77.225.50 15:04, 16 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Banaler is quite rare: it seems to be used almost only in places where it's substituted for words ending in -er in set phrases, and to parallel the structure of other words ending in -er. It's very hard to be sure, though, since it's also the weak masculine nominative form of the German adjective, and thus very hard to find in all of the German hits. "Banaler than" has only one hit on Usenet and none on Google Books. "Banalest" is not quite as rare, but both are massively outnumbered by their "more" and "most" counterparts. The current entry makes it look like "banaler" is the preferred form. Chuck Entz (talk) 18:20, 16 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
