Ety derivation[edit]

How can the word bentilador be derived from electric fan? They sound totally different. Equinox 17:21, 25 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Equinox Take an English word -> find an equivalent or similar Spanish word -> apply the Filipino alphabet to get the Filipino word. This was how the language commission created most words during the early years of the Filipino language. Since most words at that time were from Spanish, for uniformity, most loanwords were created using this process. Same process was imitated by Cebuano writers. Another example would be telebisyon, often erroneously listed as from Spanish when transmitters and the TV did not appear until the Americans came. Okay, but the current ety suggests that this word is derived from the phrase "electric fan" and not derived from the thing. It needs rephrasing somehow. Equinox 19:34, 25 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Done Seems fixed now. Equinox 02:47, 6 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
