I would have considered meaning 5 to be the current meaning, and 4 as becoming dated, but that is only my opinion.
What does anyone else think?

- Def #4 (intercourse with animals) seems like the more prevalent use. While both 4 & 5 go back very far in history, I think both are still in use. 1, 2, 3 and 6 seem absurdly redundant. --Connel MacKenzie 20:23, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- Both Merriam-Webster and the OED put meanings 1 & 2 (combined) FIRST, then meaning 5, with meaning 4 the third and last, but a quick Google search confirms that meaning 4 is most widespread on the web, though it dates from 1611 in the UK. I would have used "sodomy" for this meaning if ever I had cause to use it!Dbfirs 22:01, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Pronunciation[edit]
Wow. Somehow I think I've always heard this word pronounced /̩biːstiˈælɪti/ or something like that, with /iː/ in the first syllable. Have I just been dreaming? If not, why isn't this pronunciation even mentioned? 93.106.49.50 20:26, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
