Bruja from Bracha (blessed)?[edit]

Is it possible that the origin of bruja (Spanish for “witch”) is bracha (feminine of “blessed” in Hebrew where the “ch” is a guttural “h” sound)? One of the pronunciations of bracha is “brucha” which sounds similar to bruja. Michaelaoash (talk) 03:33, 10 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

I think the word entered the language before "j" changed its pronunciation from a "sh" sound /ʃ/. In closely related languages such as Galician,, it's spelled bruxa and still pronounced as sh/ʃ. Chuck Entz (talk) 04:33, 10 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
