In broadcasting[edit]

There is a missing sense, as the word is sometimes used in broadcasting: "A strong musical or sound effect, such as the end of a commercial, or a bit of music between segments of a program; also called a stinger." [1] - dcljr (talk) 04:38, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Missing sense: part of a citrus fruit?[edit]

Possible missing obsolete slang sense: shill bidder at an auction, etc.[edit]

John Camden Hotten's Slang Dictionary (1873) defines button as "a decoy, sham purchaser, etc. At any mock or sham auction seedy specimens may be seen. Probably from the connexion of buttons with Brummagem, which is often used as a synonym for a sham." Equinox 09:57, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
