Missing British slang senses relating to the number 3[edit]

Ray Puxley's book Brit Slang says: "A drag is a slang term for a three-month prison sentence, and is responsible [via rhyming slang, carpet bag] for the term 'carpet' becoming a popular replacement for the number three. £3 is commonly called a 'carpet', as are odds of 3/1. And 33/1 is a 'double carpet'."

It further seems that carpet also means "three-month prison sentence". Equinox 06:15, 22 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
