Rfv-sense: to remove the ovaries of. Ƿidsiþ 12:56, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Though "castrate [female animal]" seems more common, there are plenty of hits for "castrated [female animal]" on Google Books. Just try "castrated ewes". Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 14:11, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
But hasn't a castrated female animal had the entire uterus removed, not just the ovaries? —Aɴɢʀ (talk) 14:21, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Maybe it could mean that, but here they specifically say the ovaries. There's also a bunch of hits talking about uterine blood flow in castrated ewes, which they presumably wouldn't care about if the uterus had been removed. DTLHS (talk) 17:21, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
I guess usage often isn't sufficiently specific between removal of the ovaries, uterus or both — it must have been obvious enough to the people who used it that they didn't have to specify. How about a general "to remove the ovaries and/or uterus of"? Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 13:17, 1 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
