Definition[edit]

According to the definition given:

  • all widowers and widows are celibate, even if they live in a family
  • all persons living together without being married (whether heteosexual or homosexual) are celibates; among others, all divorced persons living with a partner are celibate.

Looks funny to me, even if me no speak good English. Renaud Decoster 22:50, 10 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

It looks like the first sense should probably be marked as obsolete to me, even though that’s the original meaning (straight from the Latin) Overlordnat1 (talk) 23:43, 13 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Marked obsolete. There's still the issue of the translations section. All the translations are for not married, rather than sexual abstinence, which may be very misleading (Mbsmith93) 9:26, 25 November 2022

"(rare) To practice celibacy". Can't find much. Urban Dictionary has "celibating" as "masturbating to maintain one's celibacy"! Equinox 18:26, 11 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

cited, although far more common is a pronunciation spelling of celebrate. Kiwima (talk) 23:06, 13 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
