I am only interested in starting a discussion here:

I've been studying Anglo Saxon runes. The rune cen means torch. A Leek in fact looks something like a torch. For those not familiar with Welsh it is a peculiar language with borrowings from many sources including Greek and Latin. Moreover these borrowings are not later additions from the renaissance but are part of the core language. For example the Welsh word for arm is braech - a direct borrowing from Greek. To open is Agor, again from the Greek. It is likely that such words became part of the core of a new British language during the 300 years of Roman occupation.

Since not so many people speak or study Welsh, the etymology is a neglected area, I wonder if there are old hold overs from ancient Anglo Saxon in the language?
