Latin cephālis

(Notifying Metaknowledge, Fay Freak, Brutal Russian, JohnC5): The correct word is cephălicus. I think cephālis is a ghost word. I found one instance of cephalibus, which appears to be a misprint for cephalicus. Benwing2 (talk) 07:26, 16 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Apart from the mystery where this comes from, there is also the non-word cephus claimed as a contributor to the etymology, which makes this entry even more mysterious. There is a Greek noun κεφαλίς (kephalís), a diminutive of κεφαλή (kephalḗ). Cephălicus is a correct word, but as far as I see it does not mean “bowl-shaped”.  --Lambiam 08:03, 16 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
It turns out that Mugil cephalis is a rather common misspelling of Mugil cephalus, and likewise for Leuciscus cephalus, Squalius cephalus, etc.  --Lambiam 20:09, 16 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Deleted; we now have a Translingual entry indicating that cephalis is a misspelling for cephalus, which I think is sufficient. Benwing2 (talk) 04:51, 25 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
