It's not that hard to find usage in English text on Google Books, but it's mostly italicized references to deer in France. There are a few uses in historical text relaying information from hunters or trappers in North America that seem to be fully English, but the hunters and trappers in question were no doubt bilingual in French and English- so it may be secondhand code-switching. I have cited this from a number of works that do not italicize the word. I am especially convinced by the Hemmingway quote, because he DOES italicize "fermée" in the same sentence. Kiwima (talk) 02:39, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

Good work. Many of the cites (both the ones you added and others I can see when perusing Google Books) are in the context of France or French-speaking America, but the overall number of citations which exist where the term isn't italicized does suggest it's been borrowed into English. (I'd love to know how English speakers pronounce it, though...!) I wonder if we should incorporate into the definitions or usage notes that it's often used in French contexts. - -sche (discuss) 07:21, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
