The pronunciation /kuk/ is said here to be obsolete outside of UK regions, but this is not true. A ʊ>u vowel shift occurs in Australian English in not just this word but also good, put, amongst others
- I think it's more that /ʊ/ is lowered (and centralised) to [ɵ] in a lot of accents (modern RP, General American, etc.), which doesn't happen as much in Australian English, so AusE /ʊ/ would sound like /u/ to speakers with other accents. Hazarasp (parlement · werkis) 01:46, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
