Talk:dank meme

The current first definition for "dank meme" begins with: "A usually overused meme,". My experience with this phrase is nearly the opposite. In the context of use within "dank meme", the word "dank" is used to mean: "great, awesome". Generally, a meme is considered funnier if it is new. Like a fad or joke, if more people express the same meme to the same person, it becomes (subjectively, generally) less enjoyable due to over-exposure.

While the adoption of the word "dank" from marijuana culture to general internet culture can be considered ironic in and of itself (i.e. the use of the word "dank" herein is ironic, as "dank" was, on its face, insider term being used outside of its proper outgroup), it cannot be said that someone calling something dank is implicitly pejorative. If a person calls a meme "dank", that does not automatically mean that they are claiming the meme is good while implying that it is bad.

This opening noun phrase has negative bias. I think that it should be stricken from the first definition. A second definition can be made, to accommodate the (very real and frequent) use of "dank meme" as a totally-ironic pejorative. --FlintTD (talk) 22:53, 29 January 2020 (UTC)
