According to the Norwegian Language Council, the French got the word equip from the Old Norse word skipa (to make, create, prepare etc.).

Looking at bgc it seems that it could, however post circa 1920 all the uses I'm seeing are an abbreviation of (deprecated template usage) equipment. Thryduulf (talk) 09:14, 16 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
