coordinate term[edit]

I see that is how the relationship with fag hag is listed. When I went to look up this phrase it says:

"A term which shares a hypernym with another."

In this case neither term lists a word as a hypernym though. "Stag" is male-gendered slang and "Hag" is female-gendered slang, so it seems like a hypernym would be a gender-neutral slang encapsulating the overall concept of a heterosexual who is friends with a homosexual. I am not aware of any such hypernym existing though. Are imaginary hypernyms allowed too when we see an obvious grouping like this?

Something like "fag friend" came to mind but it doesn't exactly fit the rhyming scheme.

I am also curious if there is a potential to create an article about the term lesbro.

This would also seem to be a coordinate term to fag stag. Both terms refer to heterosexual men who befriends a homosexual individual. While 'fag stag' is one who befriends a homosexual male, 'lesbro' is one who befriends a homosexual female.

http://www.details.com/story/straight-men-and-their-lesbian-best-friends for example states it was added "6 years ago" so presumably came out some time in 2009. It is used again in this January 2014 article. On UrbanDictionary the top definition has existed since 2004. It is described as a gender-swapped cognate for the slang fag hag (although clearly it is a polite portmanteau rather than a rude rhyme) in its first definition, and also has a second definition.

It seems like lesbro would be a coordinate term of fag hag too, but in a different sense. "A heterosexual who befriends homosexuals of the opposite sex" is the shared quality between the two slangs, compared to "A heterosexual MALE who befriends homosexuals" when comparing it to the other. The difference being which party's gender is variable in the comparison. Ranze (talk) 07:06, 28 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
