The Etymologies are contradictory.

Both of them reference Latin Firmus, but one is (strong, steady), while the other is not. --205.208.8.207 04:04, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Adverb[edit]

According to https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com, the adverb firm is used only in two idioms: hold firm (to something) and stand fast/firm. However, Witkionary doesn't add etymologies in idiomatic expressions at all. --Backinstadiums (talk) 15:39, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
