It is not "for". For is a latin verb. Fores is the plural of foris, gen. foris [unusual]. It means door. — This comment was unsigned.

  • Yes, it's true that Foris, -is is in fact a noun meaning door. But fores is also an early form for the Active Imperfect Subj., of Sum, second person (sing), instead of essem. You can look it up in Perseus for a reference.
