Apparently mainly used to discuss "Super Mario" games...?[edit]

@Equinox: Pretty sure it originated in the Super Mario speedrunning community but I think it is also used in the context of some other games that have the same mechanics (would also make sense, right? Why would they come up with a new term given that this one is so widely known?). I remember watching a SummoningSalt video some time back where he used the term in the context of another game but I can't quite remember which one it was. The fact that it is used chiefly in the context of Super Mario is merely a reflection of the fact that Super Mario is the most popularly speedrun game among all games that have this kind of mechanic. — Fytcha T | L | C 11:07, 2 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Fytcha: All right. Thanks. I also think the definition could be improved, to make it clearer. Want to have a go? Equinox 12:27, 2 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
In particular I don't believe that a frame rule only exists to check "whether a level has been completed". Rather it could probably measure anything: the point (as far as I barely understand) is that there is a difference between real time (what old nerds call wall time) and "frame time", and this can be exploited. @Equinox: I expanded the article a bit but I'm still not 100% satisfied, maybe I'll revisit it later. There is likely an uncountable sense too that refers to this mechanism in general (as opposed to a time interval), usually within expressions such as "how the frame rule works" etc. — Fytcha T | L | C 12:49, 2 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Looks a lot better. Thanks. Sorry I killed the trivia section but I don't believe the number of frames in a game matters to any dictionary user checking a word's meaning. Equinox 13:49, 2 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
By the way, "how the frame rule works" is not uncountable. Uncountable means that you can't count one, two, three, but here's just a big mass: "I have some rice, I've got paper"... but "THE rule" is still countable. Everybody gets this wrong. Equinox 13:50, 2 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
