@Morgengave I've never heard this as a diminutive of groente. I have, however, heard it to mean "rookie". —CodeCat 12:49, 30 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

1) Most recipes will mention "groentje(s)", not "groentetjes" - a quick search on Google or a recipe book will make this clear. 2) On the diminutive-specific meaning: Yes, rookie would be a good translation as well.
