Two syllables

The pronunciation in this classical variant should keep two syllables instead one → /ɡiˈon/ [ɡiˈõn]. Actually that is the reason why it was (and still is, by many) used with an acute accent despite the authorities' recent decission: a huge number of speakers of the language pronounce it clearly as a bisyllabic word (except when quickly pronounced). Actually, for many, suppressing those accents in words like "fié", "liáis", "liéis", "rió" (but not in "dio" or "vio") happens to be perceived as a decission as silly as suppressing the accent in cases like "amas/amás" would be. The argument of the weak i/u doesn't make much sense when that i/u is pronounced as the core and only vowel of a syllable... but alas.--37.11.122.76 19:10, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
