The English Dialect Dictionary, Being the Complete Vocabulary of All Dialect Words Still in Use, Or Known to Have Been in Use During the Last Two Hundred Years: H-L by Joseph Wright, page 172 also defines this as a form of hipsy-dipsy and defines it as "A castigation; a 'skelping'". Google Books only shows one hit in that sense before 1950, the cite Joseph Wright has.--Prosfilaes 21:45, 23 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
