Seems to me this entry is missing the sense of 'private party', or 'privileged' but I don't know how to add such a thing. inside job, insider, etc.

This one's an important word but doesn't have too good a definitions. Personally, I don't feel like doing it right now. — Vildricianus 21:27, 25 February 2006 (UTC). I added a couple of senses on the talk page, but don't feel qualified to edit the entry. (Peter V)Reply

I've cleaned it up a bit and killed the tag, but I thought I'd give folks a few days to look it over and comment. It's a hard word to define, I think because it's such a fundamental concept. Check out other dictionaries and what they have to say on the word. Even the glorious OED stumbles through it. If you're not happy with it, please reinstate the tag, but give specific critiques of the word. Thanks. Cerealkiller13 07:59, 3 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Preposition?[edit]

Just for sake of clarification, is this word also a preposition? It is synonymous with "within"

I am not an expert on English parts-of-speech, just curious.

Noun sense 1:

  1. <d>The interior or inner or lesser part.
The inside of the building has been extensively restored.

I query whether it can mean lesser part. Can anyone give an example? Mihia (talk) 22:52, 16 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

All I can think of is that the inside has a smaller volume than the outside. Equinox 04:00, 17 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

/ˌɪnˈsaɪd/[edit]

According to the Longman English Pronunciation Dictionary,

/ˌɪn''saɪd/ , but /''ɪnsaɪd/ when contrasted with outside
