Nonstandard label[edit]

@Nicodene, doesn't the label proscribed makes more sense than nonstandard? The definition of nonstandard, "Not conforming to the language as accepted by the majority of its speakers.", does not seem to square with the fact that the form has this many descendants. - Sarilho1 (talk) 17:35, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Sarilho1 As far as Latin is concerned, I reserve 'proscribed' for terms that at least one grammarian actually condemned. I'm not aware of any specifically mentioning ioco, but if they have, it would be fair enough to label it as such.
Non-standard in this context refers to literary Latin, not the spoken language. The term certainly was not standard in the former. Nicodene (talk) 18:51, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
