This is not strictly uncountable by the definition given in the glossary; it is perfectly acceptable to use the indefinite article with it, even though it cannot be pluralized. --205.235.63.51 15:44, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you, except on the pluralization. What is the plural form of "quoi"? That's the noun in it. --174.60.38.43 05:16, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
After fooling around with it on Intertran, it appears that the plural of "quoi" is "quois". --174.60.38.43 05:21, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

English vs. French meaning?[edit]

The article defines "je ne sais quoi" as "an intangible quality that makes something distinctive or attractive". I know that this is how the phrase is used in English, but does it have the same connotation in French?

Is this really a noun?[edit]

Wouldn't this be an adjective? Saying somebody had a certain je ne sais quoi, you are using the phrase/word to describe the noun (the person). I don't see how it is a noun in itself.

It is a noun. You can't "have" an adjective. You can have a certain je ne sais quoi but you can't have a certain happy. —Internoob 04:05, 15 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

German translation[edit]

Gott weiß was means "whatnot". The correct German translation is gewisses Etwas (certain something). 88.64.225.98 14:53, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
