Kapampangan[edit]

@TagaSanPedroAko Hey, just curious how you know it's from Kapampangan. Thanks! --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 22:18, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Mar vin kaiser: It's inferred from sound shifts between PPh and Tagalog, considering PPh *R usually becomes Tagalog G (compare its Bikol and Bisaya cognates, which are usually spelled dagom). This one is an exception, considering PPh *R > Y is a Kapampangan and Sambali reflex (also see dayami). TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 23:01, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
@TagaSanPedroAko: So should be same with bayani? --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 05:41, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Mar vin kaiser: Absolutely. Compare its cognate across Bisayan languages: bagani, and bayani is also a loan in Ilocano (otherwise, there's *barani following PPh *R > Ilocano r). The ACD lists it as a descendant of PMP *baRani, but notes it (in parentheses) as a possible Kapampangan borrowing. The Ilocano isn't listed there, but I would infer a Kapampangan borrowing as an exception to PPh reflexes in Ilocano. TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 06:50, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
