Is "block" the right word? The loaves in the picture do not look like blocks to me?

I don't think so. English is related to Latvian, but the etymology of loaf cannot be traced back with any certainty farther than Proto-Germanic. —Μετάknowledge^{discuss/deeds} 23:53, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
