Hmmm... I was thinking that since "mal" means bad in Spanish, this literally meant "bad-ware". Choicefresh 06:40, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, from "malus" in Latin. (compare "mal" in Esperanto etc.) From which we get malicious (see the etymology there) and then malware, which definitely comes from "malicious software" with the meaning of intentionally bad. Cheers! Robert Ullmann 06:59, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
