Hyphens, dashes and minus signs all have different appearances and functions and are not synonyms. -- Paul G 11:11, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Very true. But they should be mentioned since so many people confuse them because they look so similar and because computers have blurred the lines even more. Some articles already have an "Often confused with" heading, and I've used a "Homographs" heading at least once. The latter sounds more technical but though the minus sign and the hyphen are homographs, the dash probably isn't. — Hippietrail 11:58, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)
I think we shoud explain these symbols like Unicode does it: some times they are synonyms, in some cases we have (especially in future, I hope so) different signs for these. --- Aulis Eskola
I agree that the symbols are often used exchangeably and that it might be useful to explain this. However, in the original article, it was suggested that the words "hyphen" and "dash" were synonyms for "minus sign", when they are not. -- Paul G 15:34, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Exact separation of term is correct in typographic sense :) But added links because these terms "have something to do with each other" at least... -- Aulis Eskola
