@Imetsia: I'm a bit confused: how can a nail be stuck beneath a surface? And is it the same thing as a cat's-paw (sense 6)? PUC10:15, 2 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

@PUC: I think of a "surface" as a totally two-dimensional plane with no thickness. If the nail is stuck, it would have to go under this perfectly 2D-plane. When I was writing the definition, I too was struggling with this "beneath a surface" language, so I don't particularly like it either. Better phrasings exist, I'm sure.
